Hi ladies, it’s Erin, and welcome back to my channel.
0:12
Through my channel Busbee Style
0:14
my goal and mission is to help women just like you,
0:16
who are busy juggling life.
0:18
Look like you have your act together,
0:19
even if you don’t.
0:20
This is a video topic I have done once before
0:23
and I felt like it needed a redo.
0:24
I wanted to go in a different direction.
0:26
If you missed the first one,
0:27
I’ll put a link to that below in the description box.
0:29
So that’s a lot about where to shop:
0:32
consignment stores, outlet stores,
0:34
flash-sale websites.
0:35
This one, I wanna tailor more
0:37
toward what to actually wear to look more expensive.
0:40
I also wanna explain a little bit
0:42
that expensive, to me, also means
0:44
elegant, sophisticated, age-appropriate, chic.
0:47
It’s not just like I look like money,
0:50
because I don’t necessarily think that’s so important.
0:52
I think that looking elegant and
0:53
chic and sophisticated are the goals
0:56
and what you should target.
0:57
I’m gonna kind of walk you through
0:58
some basic tips to help you look
1:00
more elegant and sophisticated and chic.
1:02
(upbeat electronic music)
1:06
Number one is to wear all black.
1:09
It’s such a chic combination but
1:11
there are a couple of factors behind the all-black look:
1:14
So, number one, it’s easier to
1:16
buy inexpensive fabrics, and have them look expensive,
1:18
if the fabric is a dark color.
1:21
Number two, black is very slimming.
1:23
Number three, it’s a great blank canvas
1:25
for any accessory you want to add to it.
1:28
Number four, it just looks more chic
1:30
and elegant when you wear all black.
1:33
The nice part about all black is
1:34
that you don’t have to worry so
1:35
much about your fabric choices
1:36
because again, that color will hide
1:38
if the fabric isn’t that expensive.
1:40
One of my favorite go-to’s this time of year
1:43
when it’s a little bit warmer, is just a really nice
1:45
pair of black trousers, whether it’s a culotte
1:47
or an ankle trouser, and a black cami.
1:50
It’s just so simple, it’s so chic,
1:52
it’s so elegant, and then you
1:54
could always throw a little moto jacket over it.
1:56
You could throw a great necklace
1:57
on with it, a scarf with it, a blazer with it.
2:00
There’s endless possibilities.
2:01
So all-black is definitely a home run.
2:05
It’s very difficult to screw up all-black.
2:07
(upbeat electronic music)
2:12
In contrast to all-black,
2:14
I think all-white can be equally as chic.
2:17
Maybe even more luxe-looking than all-black.
2:20
The tricky part with all-white, a couple things.
2:24
Number one, you have to kinda pony-up
2:26
a little bit more for the fabrication
2:27
because when you have inexpensive
2:29
or synthetic white fabrics, it’s
2:32
going to show a lot easier than it does with black.
2:34
Number two, it does show a lot more
2:36
so it will show lumps and bumps a lot more.
2:38
So you have to be a little bit
2:39
more strategic about the silhouette
2:41
and the fit and how it works.
2:43
So here’s an example of an all-white
2:44
outfit I wore this Fall, that I loved.
2:46
It was just a white fuzzy sweater
2:48
and a wide-leg white trouser.
2:50
And then I wore an all-white look
2:52
recently at the beach.
2:53
These really, really sexy high-slit
2:57
white pants with a white sweatshirt.
3:00
I absolutely love an all-white
3:02
look, I think that it does look
3:04
very chic and expensive.
3:05
So, if you can get those things right.
3:07
Where you get the fit and the silhouette
3:08
right and you also get the fabrication right,
3:11
then go for the all-white look.
3:12
It’s just divine.
3:14
(upbeat electronic music)
3:18
The third thing to consider is
3:20
the fabric, the fabric choices.
3:22
So when you are looking at the tags
3:24
of something and you’re thinking about
3:26
buying it, if it is a natural fabric-
3:29
So that would be linen, cotton, suede,
3:32
leather, cashmere, silk, those are natural fabrics.
3:35
They are naturally going to look more expensive.
3:37
They are naturally going to drape
3:39
and fit the body better than synthetics.
3:42
Synthetics like polyester, rayon, nylon-
3:45
they are going to not drape as well
3:48
and not look as chic and expensive
3:50
as those natural fabrics.
3:52
So that’s another thing to think about.
3:53
(upbeat electronic music)
3:58
Number four is jewelry.
3:59
So jewelry, there’s a couple of
4:00
different ways you can go about
4:02
it when you want to look very chic and luxe.
4:04
The first way that you can go
4:06
about it is to wear dainty jewelry.
4:08
So that would be kind of like
4:10
what I have on right now.
4:11
The circle necklace, these little
4:13
stud earrings, this ring-
4:16
When you’re wearing these dainty
4:18
pieces, it looks like it could
4:19
be the real McCoy, it looks like
4:21
it could be real gold and real diamonds.
4:23
Another route you can go is wearing
4:25
bold gold jewelry and I would just do,
4:27
if you’re gonna do this route,
4:28
just do one piece and then leave everything else out.
4:31
So something like this would be a
4:32
good example of how that will
4:34
just elevate your whole look.
4:35
It’s a really cool, bold, gold choker necklace-
4:38
unfortunately not available anymore,
4:40
but you get the idea that if you
4:41
just pick one bold gold piece
4:44
and add it to your outfit, that will elevate the look.
4:47
It will make you look more chic
4:49
and it will make you look more stylish.
4:51
Another jewelry option for you
4:54
is the tried and true pearl necklace.
4:56
It’s just very classic and pretty
4:59
and feminine, but also very sophisticated.
5:02
So I happen to love this one,
5:04
it’s a multi-layered pearl necklace
5:06
but you don’t have to go that route.
5:08
You can do just like a smaller
5:09
multi-strand piece, or you could
5:11
even just do a single strand which
5:13
would be really beautiful as well.
5:15
(upbeat electronic music)
5:19
Number five are sunglasses.
5:21
Here’s where you can really play
5:22
around with going high or low.
5:25
I think the dupes for the high,
5:27
high-end sunglasses are so good
5:29
that you do not need to spend
5:31
three, four, even $500 sometimes on a pair of sunglasses.
5:36
Take a look at what Celine has,
5:38
take a look at what Channel has,
5:40
take a look at what Khloe has.
5:42
Take a look at your favorite high-end
5:43
designers: Valentino, Prada, Gucci-
5:46
and then look for the dupes.
5:48
And the dupes can be at Nordstrom
5:51
in the BP section, the dupes can
5:52
be from Amazon, the dupes can be
5:54
from just about anywhere.
5:56
They are so good, just make sure
5:57
that they have UV protection.
5:59
But when you where a pair of sunglasses
6:01
that looks high-end expensive,
6:03
that instantly brings your whole look up a notch.
6:06
It just makes you look a little bit
6:08
more mysterious, a little but more
6:10
stylish all-around and definitely more luxe.
6:13
So sunglasses are totally key.
6:16
(upbeat electronic music)
6:20
Wearing a scarf is another option
6:23
for you, if you want to look more luxe, expensive.
6:28
So you can go the route of that
6:29
skinny, silky scarf and you can roll it up.
6:32
I have done three videos on how to tie scarves.
6:35
I’ve done the blanket scarf,
6:36
the rectangular scarf, and the skinny scarf
6:39
so you should check that video
6:40
out if you haven’t already seen it.
6:42
I’ll put it in the description box below,
6:44
but you can just add a really cool scarf to your look.
6:47
There’s a lot of options.
6:48
(upbeat electronic music)
6:52
Next up is belts.
6:54
Belts are something that are not
6:56
gonna break the bank, even the
6:58
high, high-end ones, and they
7:00
will take your whole look up a notch.
7:02
Like it defines a waist and it looks more expensive.
7:06
So you could go the route of
7:08
the high, high-end designer belt.
7:09
Like the Hermes H belt,
7:11
or maybe the Gucci belt,
7:13
or maybe the Salvatore Ferragamo belt,
7:15
that’s the one I have, but get it
7:17
on the consignment store.
7:18
Don’t pay full price for it if
7:20
you know exactly what you want and what your size is.
7:22
Just go to The RealReal, or Vestiaire Collective,
7:24
or eBay, or someplace like that
7:26
and get the same belt for a lot less.
7:28
I mean there’s no reason why you
7:30
need to pay full price for that.
7:31
So here’s the belt that I have.
7:32
It’s real understated, the Gucci belts,
7:34
some of them are really big.
7:36
I happen to prefer this kind of
7:38
smaller, more understated size
7:41
but I also always look for a reversible
7:43
option, especially if it’s a higher end,
7:45
because then you get two-for-one.
7:47
I always like a two-for-one,
7:48
especially if you’re paying a lot of money.
7:50
This one was a hand-me-down.
7:52
(upbeat electronic music)
7:56
The next tip I want to talk about are handbags.
7:58
Handbags are one of those really
8:00
easy things that you can incorporate
8:02
into your wardrobe that will definitely
8:04
elevate your overall look.
8:06
There are a couple of ways you can go about it:
8:09
You can go the high, high-end luxury bag route.
8:11
If you are going to go that route,
8:13
you may wanna look at consignment stores.
8:14
You can get something that’s
8:16
really classic and lovely kind
8:18
of like this belt bag that I got on The RealReal.
8:21
You see there’s not a lot of logos,
8:23
there’s not a lot of hardware on this bag,
8:25
it’s a structured bag so it looks
8:27
very luxe and expensive, but it’s also very classic.
8:30
So if this is like your one bag,
8:32
it’s gonna go with everything
8:34
and it’s not gonna, you know,
8:35
go out of style in five years.
8:37
It’s going to last forever, so that’s one option.
8:42
The other option is just to think
8:43
in terms of a really chic, structured bag.
8:46
So it doesn’t need to be a super
8:49
high-end bag like the Celine bag
8:51
but you could do something more like this.
8:55
Here’s a Brahmin bag that’s structured,
8:56
that’s really beautiful and looks very expensive.
8:59
Here’s another one that I have that’s python embossed.
9:03
This one’s by Michael Kors, a little bit smaller,
9:05
and it’s metallic so that’s a
9:07
very neutral color as well.
9:09
And then here’s another example.
9:10
This is a Henri Bendel bag structured
9:12
in white, that has the top handles
9:15
that’s very elegant, chic, and versatile.
9:18
That’s not going to be crazy expensive.
9:20
It’s something that you can wear
9:22
with almost anything and it also, again,
9:25
just takes the whole look up a notch.
9:26
Those structured bags, if you get one
9:29
with just some nice, clean lines,
9:31
with the minimal hardware if you
9:33
go the route of a more subtle luxury bag,
9:37
it’s going to be more relevant, longer.
9:39
So just something to think about.
9:41
(upbeat electronic music)
9:45
Next up I want to talk about classic pieces,
9:48
and the importance of wearing classic pieces.
9:50
So by no means does this mean you
9:52
cannot wear, like, trendy pieces,
9:54
I’m just saying that if you want to
9:56
look more luxe and more sophisticated, and timeless,
10:01
then classic pieces are the way to go.
10:03
By classic I mean tailored,
10:06
clean lines, minimal details,
10:09
pieces that will really span the decades,
10:13
that never go out of style.
10:15
They’re really timeless and those
10:16
are the pieces that will look the most luxe.
10:19
When in doubt, go classic vs trendy
10:22
when you want to elevate and look more expensive.
10:24
(upbeat electronic music)
10:28
Dark jeans, I just mentioned them,
10:30
those are a big deal on a couple fronts.
10:32
Number one, they make you look slimmer.
10:33
Number two, they’re really versatile
10:34
and they go with everything in your closet.
10:36
And number three, they can elevate your look
10:38
and look dressier, more sophisticated.
10:40
I love to pull out a pair of dark-washed
10:43
skinny jeans, pair them with a pair of
10:45
great chic, classic pumps and a cute top
10:49
and be done with it.
10:50
Maybe a blazer or moto jacket over it.
10:52
It’s a wonderful look, the dark jeans
10:55
are terrific, they’re a wardrobe basic.
10:57
If you don’t already have a great
10:58
pair of dark washed jeans that
10:59
you feel really good in and really
11:01
confident in, that is definitely
11:03
something that should be high on your shopping list.
11:05
(upbeat electronic music)
11:10
The crisp, white button-down is always a slam dunk.
11:14
Now I know some of you may have larger busts,
11:16
and have trouble with a white button-down.
11:18
In that case, either you can take
11:21
your garment to the tailor and have
11:22
them fix it in the waist so it’s
11:24
not so big in the waist, or what you can do
11:27
is just wear the button-down open
11:29
with a really lovely cami underneath
11:32
and it will still look really chic and sophisticated.
11:34
So that crisp, white button-down,
11:36
those dark wash jeans, that belt
11:38
and the pumps and you’re like yes, that’s a winner.
11:42
(upbeat electronic music)
11:46
Pointed-toe shoes are definitely a classic.
11:48
I don’t feel like they’ve ever
11:50
gone out of style, even though they
11:51
can be a nightmare to wear unless you find the right pair.
11:55
They do look very expensive, so if you’re
11:58
contemplating between a rounded-toe
12:00
or a pointed-toe, when it comes to
12:01
a flat or a heel, I would go the
12:03
direction of the pointed-toe if you can take it.
12:06
So I would have a pair of black
12:07
pointed-toe pumps, I would have
12:08
a pair of skin-colored pointed-toe pumps,
12:12
and maybe one fun subtle print
12:14
like a polka dot, or a stripe, or an animal print.
12:17
When in doubt, go the route of solid colors vs prints.
12:22
Prints are wonderful and I love
12:24
to wear prints, but it’s so much
12:26
harder to get that sophistication right
12:29
with the print, unless it’s an animal print.
12:31
It’s a lot easier to do when you’re wearing solid colors.
12:35
(upbeat electronic music)
12:39
You know when you’re wearing
12:40
something that’s a little more fitted,
12:41
you want to make sure you have a
12:42
really smooth, more t-shirt type bra
12:45
that fits you well so there’s not like
12:47
folds of skin peeping through to your shirt
12:50
and also, you don’t want to wear
12:52
a lacy bra that’s gonna look lumpy
12:54
under a shirt and you don’t want to
12:57
have the bra a contrasting color.
12:59
You want the bra to be a color
13:01
that really will not show through the shirt.
13:04
So those are just some of the
13:05
things to think about with the
13:06
undergarments and also obviously
13:07
you don’t want panty lines showing through.
13:10
So you wanna do a no-seam panty.
13:12
Soma Intimates makes both a great
13:15
vanishing back bra, and also a
13:17
vanishing panty line bra, I’ll link both below.
13:20
(upbeat electronic music)
13:25
Okay, this next combination is
13:27
one of my favorites and when it
13:28
comes to, like, looking really
13:30
elegant and luxe, it’s a winner.
13:34
Every time.
13:34
And it’s the turtleneck/blazer combination.
13:37
So you throw on a turtleneck and
13:39
a blazer, you just look really expensive.
13:42
You do the turtleneck, the blazer,
13:44
the dark wash jeans, and the pointed-toe pumps,
13:46
and the belt- let’s not forget the belt!
13:48
And you are, you’re so good.
13:50
(upbeat electronic music)
13:55
The next piece I wanted to talk
13:56
about that I think is one of those
13:58
fail safe look-luxe options also, is a camel coat.
14:03
Whether that’s a camel trench,
14:05
a camel overcoat, outerwear coat,
14:08
or a camel blazer: all look expensive.
14:12
All look luxe, all look super regal
14:14
and classic and sophisticated.
14:17
So can’t go wrong with camel.
14:19
(upbeat electronic music)
14:23
The last tip I wanted to share
14:25
is to make sure that you are
14:26
walking around with confidence
14:28
because if you are not walking around
14:30
with confidence and owning what you’re wearing,
14:32
then it will show.
14:33
People will see through that so
14:36
whatever it is that you put together
14:38
on your body, whatever outfit you
14:40
decide to do, whatever tip you decide
14:42
to employ, make sure that you’re
14:44
walking around owning it.
14:46
Confidently wearing it, smiling,
14:50
happy, and that’s gonna make all
14:52
the difference in the world.
14:53
A couple of other quick things I wanted to mention,
14:55
just, hair is important.
14:57
You want it to be sleek and clean
14:59
and nice and not messy.
15:01
And also, you need to think about
15:03
steaming or ironing your garments
15:05
so that they’re not all wrinkly.
15:06
That one’s a hard one for me.
15:08
And then also tailoring your garments
15:10
because if something doesn’t fit
15:12
quite right, it will make it look less expensive
15:14
than if it’s tailored for your body.
15:16
It’s going to look so beautiful
15:18
and elegant and just crisp and perfect.
15:21
So those are my tips to helping you
15:23
look more expensive, but also more
15:25
elegant, more sophisticated, more chic,
15:28
more stylish-
15:30
And I think that if you use these tips,
15:32
you’re just gonna feel awesome.
15:34
You’re gonna walk out your door
15:34
with an extra spring in your step
15:36
and I think, you know,
15:38
who doesn’t want that?
